The Limapela Foundation

Quality education for Zambia based on Christian values

July 2024

Our builders are working steadily now on the foundation for The Lower Primary Centre building project at at Limapela Cedric’s. This building will include three classrooms, toilets, store rooms and a large play area for our younger children. Over 430 children are now enrolled, which is too many for the number of existing classrooms. We aim to have the new building ready for use in January 2025, when we will be glad to see all classes properly housed from 7:30 each morning.

As we contract various workers on projects like this one, it is gratifying to know that Limapela is helping to provide a livelihood for their families. Our focus is primarily on the education of our pupils, but as we have nearly 40 permanent employees in both schools, we are conscious of the many other families who benefit by having a parent who is earning a regular income. Thanks to all our donors!

The Kafakumba Singers will travel to Amano Christian School, Musenga, later this month, then to Chengelo School, Mkushi in September. These visits are much enjoyed by our young singers, many of whom rarely travel beyond than their own communities in the Baluba-Fisenge area. This year the choir includes over 30 young people, a number of whom are new. It has been a challenge for them to learn quite a raft of music with which the older singers are already familiar.

The Limapela Running Club continues to meet twice weekly, with sometimes as many as 30 young people participating. They run 3.4 kilometres, and if you hate running, you might well ask why they would want to do this! The objective — fitness, friendship, a safe social environment and a few words of wisdom from me each time we meet. We plan to take 8 of them to participate in the First National Bank Fun Run in Kitwe on 20 July, so they are all competing to be the fastest!

LIMAPELA CEDRIC’S INTER-HOUSE ATHLETICS

Sports are very important in one’s life as they keep the body in shape and promote good health. On the 27 June we held an inter-house competition for pre-school to Grade 3, and on the 28 June an inter-house competition for Grade 4 to Grade 9.

The school has four sports houses: Luangwa, Kafue, Zambezi and Luapula Houses. Teachers were given responsibilities to organise and train the participants. Our athletes were placed in two groups — juniors and seniors. The activities included sack race, relays, water race and balloon race for the juniors, and sprints, relays and field events for the seniors.

The competition was stiff, and the participants gave their best shot. The day was colourful, with pupils as well as teachers wearing their house colours. The best runners were picked and they will be awarded accordingly. At every competition there is always a winning house: this year Zambezi House in the junior section, and Luangwa House in the senior section.

The pupils were very happy, and thanked all the people who made it possible for them to have such wonderful treat.
